If I can't be in the world with compenstatory abilities, I'm not sure where I'd go. I'd probably end up as cannon fodder or a maid in most worlds if I was myself :P

If I could assign myself a more-than-myself role (aes sedai, wizard, actual fighting ability, etc...)

I think it would be Tortall, Valdemar or perhaps the Buffyverse. :P All places that I'm unlikely to die of some horrible plague.
