I think starting with officers is smart though. In general I am against PC changes that can weaken a operational effectiveness and I think throwing four or five young women into a confined place with hundred or so young men isn't likely to improve effectiveness but if the navy thinks they can pull it off then they should let them.
If they can work out the berthing there is no real reason why females can't do most of the jobs on a sub. Not sure what kind of environment they will have though and I would encourage my daughter to serve on a sub.
