but as far as setting up the subs it's probably more practical. I'm just noting that
I think someone talked about Sweden or somewhere like that in the last thread on this subject that did that, which is why it occurred to me.
I think someone talked about Sweden or somewhere like that in the last thread on this subject that did that, which is why it occurred to me.I think I recall that thread. Anyway, correlations to other countries are rough, especially where Europe is concerned. From a technical viewpoint, the operation on board a nuclear sub versus a diesel sub are simply light years apart, and coed difficulties are ameliorated by having ships that go out for a few weeks instead of a few months, which is what ours do. Sweden has five submarines, 3 Gotland class and 2 older models. All five are electric/diesel, meaning they have very short deployments, they don't have nuclear reactors on board keeping the propellers going and the air breathable. So it's a different sort of case, and it's hard to say how effective it's been either, since you rarely get honest commentary on results, the politicians say it's working, and they are definitely trustworthy
Not to knock any of our NATO allies, but many of them make military decisions on political not strategic grounds, not that we don't too, which is part of the problem.
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.

I'm not current on it, but I believe the Navy has generally blazed the trail on this issue.
