I worked for a company that fast tracked female engineers into managment posistions

About 80% of our engineers were male and one of our four managers was female so they decided they were going to fast track one of the females, in order to increase diversity. Our business department was probably 80% female but they complained that because one of the managers was male.
This was a fortune 500 company that helped to found silicon valley and it was corporate policy not just the prejudice of some dairy farm operator. When I ask why they felt the need to give gender preferences the fact that females make less money on average then males was one of the reasons given. I pointed out that wasn't true at our company and that women were paid the same for equivalent experience (in fact it was something they bragged about). They didn't seem think the fact there was no evidence to show discrimination was any reason to not give women engineers extra help with their careers.

Why? It's the woman's body, she has the right to decide how to apportion her biological resources.
