1) How much liquid do you drink a day? How much water do you drink a day (I count things like Gatorade and Powerade as they are mostly water)?
I drink tea all during the day. It is a diuretic, but it's one of those weird ones that is still hydrating (in other words, its hydrating effect is greater than its diuretic effect). Particularly since a lot of the time, I'm drinking herbal tea which has no diuretic effect. Besides that, I'll drink water. I also get a lot of my hydration from my omnivorous diet, too. It's really amazing how much hydration you get from stuff like apples.
2) Do you know when you are dehydrated? If so, how? Do you get headaches, feel tired, etc.? What are your signs that let you know?
I don't usually experience symptoms of full-on dehydration until it gets to the point that I'm feeling woozy. My main gauge is that if I haven't had any water in a bit that day, and I drink some and I just chug and chug and chug and that water just tastes so good , I probably should pour myself another glass or three.
3) Do you know how much water a day you should drink?
There is no such thing. Your body will have different demands varying due to exercise levels that day, how much slept you got, how much you've eaten, and even the bloody weather. I just drink water throughout the day and gauge if I need more or not.
4) Screw water give me alcohol?
That's rather counterproductive
I understand that in the olden-days that was healthier than drinking the likely-contaminated well water, but these days, there's no reason to hydrate with alcohol.5) Do you think I was dehydrated?
Probably, for reasons others have said. No need to repeat them.

What I grew up hearing was 8 cups per day. Which is 1/2 gallon. Meaning he's doing... 8 times that. *NM*

Maybe he meant a liter. I could see that, especially considering he's military.

A liter is more than a quart by a hair, and his value is fine, depending on circumstances
