Appropriate spell selection and usage makes a lot more of a difference than any amount of power-gamed prestige classes. Get the Spell Compendium book and revise your character's spellbook accordingly.
As soon as a wizard turns level five and is able to cast third-level spells (fireball, lightning bolt, etc) they are no longer wimpy. By character level 10, wizards are godly and any non-casters should just stop playing because the wizard can do everything necessary to overcome the encounter... they're the mage's bodyguard, that's it, only useful for "clearing the trash mobs" to put it in MMO-parlance.
Sorry, but I hate on wizards because they boil down to "Fort save or die" spammers once you've made it through the lower levels.

I agree about choosing the right spells that is why I was recommending the focused conjurer bit. You are throwing away "theoreitcal" versatility to get more "practical versatility." In theory a generalist wizard can cast any spell of the wiz/sorc list as long as he the spell prepared, but you are limited via spell slots. Focused Specialist changes that and conjuration is one of the best schools.
And getting the ability to switch out any spell for any divination spell on the fly is so worth one bonus feat and forcing to take 5 wizard levels before prestiging.
The prestige classes other subsitution options are not for offense but instead for defense. Abrupt Jaunt allows you to teleport instantly in response to other enemeies on their turn for effectively free. The 4th level of IoSFV allows you to raise veils as an immediate action, once again on your enemy turn almost for free. It is like saying raise deflector shields.
Good conjuration spells can be located here (there are similar guides for other schools of magic)

The thing I disagree about is I believe that battlefield control is stronger than the save or die mechanism. Battlefield control almost always works, while save or dies are more like 50/50. I rather have the sure thing.
What a ridiculous and tragic thing...

Very strange. Sounds like he needs to calm down and realize it's just a game.

Why do YOU have be cleared of evil charges? Why does it matter if he calls you evil?
