That's close to how I'm looking at things at the moment. The elephant is out in the field now and can be seen, assesed and maybe dealt with. Hopefully dealt with.

I'm hopeful, but I'm also not holding my breath. I don't do well with betrayal and this was a pretty huge set of hurtful lies to do for absolutely no reason at all.

It really doesn't seem to me like it was for "no reason at all." Eventually, you're going to have to decide if you think her rationalization (or lack thereof) was real enough to her to make it all worth this, but I don't think there was no reason. I think there were just undiscussed reasons. And people who are depressed, hurt or just confused can sometimes be excused for making what seem to be stupid reasons. I think you'll really benefit from a discussion that leaves your hurt as a secondary topic, if you think you can do it (I know, easier said than done. *hugs* ).
