Where all progress is 100% numbers based, few new options open up, etc.
A treadmill: the place you progress to is the same as the place you progress from. Absolutely the case in the Diablo games.
I enjoy 1 because it's shorter and the atmosphere is amazing. Enough for me to look past the grind. 2, though? Awful. And I despised Torchlight, which combined all of the flaws of the Diablo games with none of the highlights.
