Giving old games a try years after their initial release? A Deathwatch Guard Send a noteboard - 17/07/2012 02:32:57 AM
I'm referring to older, and sometimes much older games that you never played at the time of their release, but then heard so much about that you decided to give them a try to see what the fuss is all about. I like games with good graphics, but graphics are far from the most important feature of a game for me. However, for better or worse, graphics are what you see first, and it doesn't matter how good the gameplay or story is if the game has aged so poorly you have no desire to go beyond a few minutes of play time.

So what I'm asking about is, what old games have you picked up and attempted to play after numerous recommendations from friends, online sources, etc? And how did those experiences go for you? Did you find the game to be the gem it was advertised as, or was it just merely passable, or maybe even worse? What about old games that you did play around the time of their release? Have they aged better for you by comparison?

This thread is brought to you thanks to Baldur's Gate 2, which I just recently got at GOG and started playing. And also by the strange mix of emotions the game causes me to have. On one hand I like the variety of characters, the variety of spells, how the game doesn't hold my hand at all, among various other points. But on the other hand despite everything seemingly being good, playing the game just somehow seems like a...chore. I can't even explain why, because the graphics don't seem so bad in my opinion, and the gameplay is quite good. But somehow I'm not having the amount of fun I would expect myself to with a game that has so many good things going for it.

Psychonauts was worth it. The art direction helped it to age pretty gracefully, too. *NM* - 17/07/2012 03:07:54 PM 400 Views
Psychonauts is only 7 years old, so it's not that old yet - 17/07/2012 11:02:09 PM 677 Views

I tried that recently. Spent more time creating my character than I did playing before quitting. *NM* - 19/07/2012 12:55:08 AM 579 Views
