The ambassador is an ambassador TO the female clans, not FROM them. He is indeed male. I forget who exactly, but one of the krogan you talk to refers to the ambassador as "he." I think it's Wrex or his brother. Can't confirm for sure that there are no female krogan in the game (though that appears to be the prevailing internet opinion) but I'm 99% sure that the representative, at least, is male. I'll try to double check that soon, though. I'm on my second playthrough and should be headed to Tuchanka soon.
