I might resist more if I weren't a Valve game fan, but it's a pretty solid service. Zalis Send a noteboard - 20/02/2010 02:59:40 AM
Besides - it lets me see what games my friends are playing and even helps me join theirs easier. I play a lot of Left4Dead2, etc, so that's a big convenience feature. It's also the only IM client I keep on my computer now, since everyone else I care to talk to is already on my Facebook. (or calls/texts) People dabbled with this kind of social gaming with X-Fire, etc, but Steam has raised that bar.

Pre-Order and 4-Pack deals allow you to buy new games at up to 33% discounts. The only reason I see *not* to buy a game on Steam is when it also requires crap like SecuROM, GFWL or Rockstar Social Club. You're just jumping through extra hoops at that point, and then I simply don't buy the games.

Thankfully, many Steam releases have their previous DRM removed for this version. So, while Steam itself is technically DRM, it's also blossomed into a valuable service for PC gamers. Yell Trojan all you want, but it's not as bad as you're making it out to be.
The sword might be grateful to the forge fire, but never fond of it.

I don't think these companies realize they're encouraging piracy. - 19/02/2010 06:11:51 PM 832 Views

PC games should just drop all DRM measures or go with Steamworks. - 19/02/2010 08:34:44 PM 700 Views
Don't get me started on Steam again, it's just as insiduous as other DRM 'solutions'. - 19/02/2010 10:37:00 PM 614 Views
