Basically in the first 3 books Traveling worked completely differently then it did from the 4th on. Dunstan Send a noteboard - 31/05/2017 04:31:59 PM

It's not something one is likely to catch in a first read through, and even a reread might just lead to a bit of head scratching, but once you start actually looking for it... It's all over the place.

From the prologue of EotW, to the fight at the end of TDR. Traveling was depicted as simply instant teleportation. Like when Lanfear was following Rand around in Fal Dara. The whole "watching eyes" bit. Post-retcon Traveling wouldn't of even been able to do half of those sudden jumps. But it is even more blatant when Rand himself does it. He is simply one place, and then another. Without any mention of Gateways.

Why it is easy to miss though is pretty simple. We the readers simply never get formally introduced to Traveling until after the retcon.

Can you explain the retcon to those of us a few years out from the latest reread? *NM* - 31/05/2017 09:27:58 AM 288 Views
