If the Left (and I use that term exclusively because the term "liberal" is misapplied to the Left, who have become extremely illiberal of late) believes that violence to stop "hate speech" is acceptable, they really should understand that violence can't be controlled. Even if we were to assume for an instant, arguendo, that it would not be evil per se to murder someone for hateful beliefs, we know that someone is then going to say that person's family is tainted with his beliefs and kill the children. Everyone draws the line at a different point, and when murder takes place, everyone's line is far beyond legitimacy. The very reason we prohibit violence is to protect basic freedoms. We need to circumscribe it even when legitimately used by the state to ensure that no abuse is possible.

Yet somehow, there is a growing belief on the Left that private violence is justified. Of course, if that is the case, then sooner or later I'm going to go around armed in response because I'll have to. If I have reason to believe that Leftists are going around murdering people due to their political beliefs, then if a Leftist starts harassing me my instinct will be to shoot them before I get shot. In this way paramilitary groups will form, just as the Spartacists in Weimar Germany spurred the formation of paramilitary groups. Believe me, I don't want that. I don't want to have to choose between a fascist future and a communist future. I don't want to have to choose between batshit crazy Social Justice Warriors and batshit crazy Daily Sturmers. But if the Left normalizes violence, then I'm going to have to pick a side because our normal political discourse will be dead. My favored methods of resolving disputes - debating, voting and suing - will become ineffective. So at that point I'll have to start singing "Der Rote kommt nie mehr zu Ruh' ".

Of course, once there are street battles between armed paramilitary groups it's only a matter of time before the actual military gets involved, which would lead to either civil war or a military coup. Neither of those are good for the US, and I suspect that the end result of either would not be something that the Left would be happy with. Far more people with guns and training are against the Left than on the Left. For every loser like Reality Winner there are probably 1,000 veterans who think the Antifa and SJWs are full of shit (rightly so). I suspect the numbers in active duty may be even higher.

So yes, this call to violence needs to stop, NOW. Either that or I'll go on a gun buying spree and make sure everyone in my family knows how to shoot with deadly accuracy.
