The left may not say they think middle class black kids should get advantages over poor white kid but that is the result of their actions and more importantly poor white kids feel like they are being disadvantaged in order to give special rights to minorities. The left can rationalize all the want but the poor white kids are not listening, they are listening to alt right voices who are telling them what they want to hear.

My uncle runs a construction company that sometimes does work for the city of Dallas and he has to use a certain percentage of minority contractors on his projects. The last contact he did all but one of those minority owned contractors subbed work out to other contractors who has also submitted bids and who would have one the bid without that rule. Many of them were paid less than they would have been if they had been allowed to play on a level field. The rich monitory contractors are doing nothing but dipping their hand in honey jar with some state sponsored extortion. Assuming that wasn't the intend, which is overly generous, you still have to accept it is the result. By the oppose similar rules for vets. A guy I served with ran a company that did nothing be resell equipment at a 3% mark up because he is a disabled vet. His disability? He hurt his ankle playing basketball. He loves skiing so he bought a condo in Colorado.

The left may not admit that they want to marginalize white votes in respect to minority votes, though we all know they won't lose any sleep over it, but that is the result of thinking it is only illegal to gerrymander in way that negatively affect minorities.
