My take Cannoli Send a noteboard - 17/09/2017 04:41:46 AM

It's the Bible & Christianity. The Poet is God, the Wife is mother Earth or something similar, the house is the planet. Ed Harris & Michelle Pfieffer are Adam & Eve, their sons are Cain & Abel. The glass heart and the study are the fruit of the tree & Eden. The sink breaking is the Deluge, when God wipes humanity from the planet, only now they come back more numerous & destructive than ever, and God sacrifices his son to their insanity, because he likes being worshiped so much. The house breaking & the Wife burning it down (with a lighter that "Adam" brought in) is humanity's evils destroying their home. Notice how the Wife is all about the house and people keep messing it up and interfering with her attempts to work on it. Harris persists on smoking in spite of her admonitions, and Pfeiffer makes a mess in the kitchen, both in dumping the hot pan and making lemonade. "Abel"'s blood pollutes the ground, and exposes the means of the destruction of the whole thing, and so on. It's the same message as in "Noah".

Creepy footnote to the autobiographical aspects I implied in the OP, Aronofsky might be dating Lawrence.
