
Gun control opponents will point to the conclusions in studies like this one to justify their viewpoint that the types of gun deaths most impacted are not the ones that provoke the discussion.
What I mean by that is that is the conclusions that reductions are seen in intimate partner firearm homicides, accidental deaths involving children and other household members, and gun suicides. I'm not suggesting these are not positive goals. But they aren't what most people worry about. The average person who wants gun control laws passed isn't focused on being shot by their significant other. They are worried about mass shootings, terrorist attacks, and gang violence. Most of which involve illegally obtained firearms.
That said, like I have stated here and on Facebook, I have no problem with the Federal law prohibiting private ownership of fully automatic weapons being expanded to include bump stocks and high capacity magazines.
