If you take out the numbers for inner city gang and drug violence the number drop dramatically. We do have gun issues in the country and we seem more interested in entrenched positions than reasonable precautions but blighted cities are the real problem.
Since almost all of the middle class has fled the fled the major cities I'm not sure we can change that. The most large city governments are pandering corrupt beacons of in ineptness and corruption. Here in Dallas we had a city council member indicted for taking bribes and the reelected him. I know I wouldn't send my daughter to a Dallas public school nor can I afford any neighborhood in the city I would be willing raise my family in.
