There are TONS of things I wouldn't want my family to do without me (Cecily growing up, getting married, etc), but if I have to leave and they languish and grow depressed instead because of me, I'd consider that a failure on my part. Your wife probably would have expected you to wait a time, but I just don't agree that she'd want you to never find a separate happiness.
