In the specific example provided in your link, I would have used "than" rather than "to"

So, not "This is completely different to any other champagne I’ve ever tasted." Rather "This is completely different than any other champagne I’ve ever tasted."

Using "to" in that sentence sounds very strange to me. But what can you expect from those who say, "leftenant" when pronouncing "lieutenant."
