Regarding your inside statement - Not for an Anglophile The Shrike Send a noteboard - 09/11/2017 08:22:44 PM

I thought it came from the old Italian word for column which was spelled with an "l" while the French/Spanish word was spelled with an "r."

Either way, one mocks the British whenever one can. It's the right thing to do.

You and Cannolo/Cannoli can be alone in this mocking of the British. Actually you won't be alone since I am sure more will join your cause.

As for this committed monarchist, I await the glories of season 2 of The Crown.

And I believe the pronunciation of colonel as kernal has something to do with the French. It always does when we discuss the depths the English language can go to.
