There's a world of difference. I can pick up something written in the 1700s and, with only the most minor effort I can read it and understand it. There are a few words that have changed meanings, or which shifted tone (from positive to negative or vice versa). I can read Shakespeare with only a slight bit more effort, and any bright reader can still understand even Chaucer.

What you want to do is artificially impose changes on the language just because you're being an iconoclast.
