I'm not arguing that the language should be "ossified" as you put it. I'm just saying change should be organic and slow, not artificial and fast. "Organic and slow" makes concessions to changes in usage, spelling, etc. that stick. "Artificial and fast" makes concessions to the stupid and ignorant, who won't appreciate it anyway.
