being old I dislike most new things random thoughts Send a noteboard - 29/01/2018 02:06:29 PM

And the new style of fantasy is one of the things I dislike. I wanted to like the new Brandon Sanderson series but I found myself asking why when I am struggling to finish the third 1000+ page book when so little has actually happened that I care about. I don't need an in-depth back story on everyone one mentioned in the book and I don't need a half dozen central protagonist. If I want to read slow developing story line which focus on complex character development there is a good literature out there that I can read instead genre pulp fiction. This is coming form someone who actually enjoyed read The Sillmarillion.

Science fiction has become stories of pretty twenty somethings struggling with their romance issue in a dystopian world that makes absolutely no sense and fantasy has become epic stories which focus on world building and developing as many characters as possible but where very little actually happens. Fantasy and science fiction used to be faced paced action stories and now they are bellybutton gazing romances where the fantasy has very little plot and science fiction has no science.

Now get off my lawn before I turn the hose on you.

I didn't read the novella - looking at the summary, I'd say you don't really need to. - 29/01/2018 03:35:49 PM 310 Views
