Like Cannoli, the facts chosen to support the point were all things I already knew and didn't find at all challenging to any of my core beliefs. Like Greg, I thought the writer beat it to death.

If I was giving a powerpoint presentation / lecture to an audience I would remove the last third of the cartoon before I would pivot to related subjects (strip out all the stuff after "So what do we do about this?"

View original postAs to the central idea that perceived attack on a core belief could trigger the fight of flight response, sure, why not?

Grits teeth, neuroscience wise it is not the fight or flight response. It is a different but related phenomena, but you got the gist of it and have groked it. Some of the brain neuroanatomy is related but some of it is different.

Yes, Confusion / False Alarm / Challenging fundamental beliefs is a far bigger problem in our daily lives than actual things we need to run away from or to physically fight.
