I think most of the dysfunction in larger offices can be chalked up to that. I hate my job, so I'm happy to clog the drain because I don't hate my job enough to want to get fired, but I still want to get back at them, so I do so in little, obnoxious ways.
It's sort of like, say, when you know you're going to quit so you go into the men's room and piss all around the stall, everywhere but in the toilet, making sure to soak the toilet paper roll thoroughly. Not that I'm saying anyone would ever do that. Just...hypothetically.
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
