I can only speak for myself, but it was awful. I skimmed half of it because it was so terrible, both from a plot standpoint and of course from a stylistic standpoint.

Would you have enjoyed ADwD more it it was marketed / organized as a collection of short stories around existing characters we know instead of being treated as a 1000 page novel?
