I live in an area from which it is a 9 hour drive to the nearest NFL stadium. I don't have a real connection to any NFL team and I haven't been able to just pick a team and love it. Apparently I need a genuine connection to be a genuine fan.

I have found that I don't have the same problem when it comes to hating a team. I can just pick a team to hate and enjoy genuine animosity, so to speak. This gives me a rooting interest and makes the league more interesting for me. I decided a while ago I would root against all professional teams from Boston. So I hate the patriots.

Incidentally, nowadays I find myself hoping that a fairly mediocre Giants team will make the playoffs and eventually bring me Super Bowl joy at the expense of the patriots.
