I think they're soo consumed with identity politics that they project their fears as your intentions. I took it as you meant it... that they're retconning the names and how weird that it is they would do something like that.

And interesting question you posed. Got a chuckle out of me. If they transition to another gender, why change their name from Sue to Bob? If Gender is inconsequential, why would having a man named Sue matter one way or the other?
