As would I. And in some ways, we might be in better shape to do so than the other major contenders... provided that the competition remains largely peaceful.

It's not that I'd expect any other power to grow past them, so much as I'd expect the US to fall apart, if not tear itself apart - and unfortunately not along neat geographic lines that would allow the relatively smooth creation of two or more successor states. The country is stuck in a spiral of extreme polarization and endless culture wars, with a political system that is massively biased towards polarization and zero-sum games, and with no way to change that system unless both sides agree, when the whole problem is that both sides can't agree on anything anymore. Until / unless I start seeing some signs of that spiral stabilizing and some sanity returning, I'm extremely concerned. Within our lifetimes, we've already seen things slide from where they stood in let's say 1990 to today; if the trend continues downhill, I'm not optimistic of what things will look like another thirty years from now.
