Whatever gaffes Biden may make, he has staffed up an administration that has done a good job with this crisis. They monumentally fucked up with Afghanistan, but they've been the opposite of that here. And from what I've read, Biden himself has been intimately involved in brining many European leaders together in support of the sanctions going much deeper than expected.
None of that diminishes the gravity of the gaffe, but it would be hell of a lot more terrifying if the gaffe came along with a totally inept administration, or was a product of cognitive decline which keeps the President from helming a unified strategy across multiple departments.
