Saves the cop from having to investigate them (since they will show up guilty anyway) and their claim will be much less believable if they claim it later, after being investigated.
I will claim at this time that I am not knowingly a miller, nor have any reason to think I am, but I'd rather if a cop got a positive on someone, we dealt with it then, most people do not get investigated in the game, and there are some ways for a miller to serve a pro-town role I choose not discuss at this time. Should one exists, I encourage them to think about it.
IF we're not HCing, our best bet is for the cop to wait till they either get a positive, or they feel they can establish at least two living players as innocent, then probably mass RC, with other investigators going last.
Honestly, I can't think of anything pro-town they could do other than lynch the scum. They just get in the way of the cop doing its job. Plus, by having them all claim now, the ninjas can't claim to be millers later. They would have to do it now or never.
If they plan to claim, it is best on day 1. It really all depends though on whether or not someone is likely to be copped or not. If you have a tendency to be copped, then yes, claim D1, if not, well, we've no HC table.
Here's the thing, if we mass claim on say, day 4, normally a mafia member might notice on the HC table he'd been HC'd guilty, and consider a miller claim, especially if the HCing player had listed innocent for others they'd HC'd, otherwise you're moving yourself from prob-town or neutral town to prob-scum. We won't have an HC table, and we are likely to lynch miller claim, personally, so long as a miller claim takes place before investigative reveals, I'll consider it as valid as D1, keeping in mind of course that I strongly favor lynching miller claims as a general policy. I would rather people just claimed now, but I don't really expect people to, so if they aren't going to, I'd rather they were aware of other options. It goes without saying, embedding miller comments in day 1 messages for future reveal makes such claims more believable.
Note by the way that on my proposed Day 3/4 massclaim strategy calls for vanillas and passive action roles to claim first, this is primarily to prevent heightened probabilities of a scummer false-claiming miller and similiar.
All this will do is give the scummy ninjas an incentive to claim investigative roles. That would allow them to see anyone who has claimed vanilla or a less active role first, and can guide them in crafting a better lie for when they do claim. Additionally, if they time it right, we can have scum waiting to claim after our own investigators do as well, giving them even greater insight.
If it comes to a mass roleclaim, they're going to be lying anyway, and claiming an investigative role isn't very dangerous for scum. Especially when there's no way to verify it, and especially when (thanks to your earlier revelation) we already know that there are non-standard roles in this game. Most importantly of all, we certainly don't want to reward scum for claiming to be pirate investigators.
If we must do a mass roleclaim at some point, we need a less subjective and malleable criteria for determining the order in which we would claim. In past games, using post count to use a system where less active players claim before more active ones has worked well. I would say even say that agreeing to a completely random order would be better than your suggestion of Investigators claiming last.
At this point, I'd be highly opposed to any mass roleclaims anyway. I suspect that on Day 3 or 4, I will still be opposed to it. I just don't see it being that beneficial to us, with no way to know for certain until the game is over anyway.
No, I think we're going to need a different sort of strategy in this one. I would suggest that we forget about roles entirely. Unless you have one, of course, and then you should obviously use it to the best of your ability. But I doubt that worrying about other peoples' roles will get us very far in this game. We need to go back to the basics, and look for patterns and clues in posts.
Now, here is my question for everyone: If we're not hypocopping and we're not roleclaiming, what are we to talk about?
Because we really do need to have more discussion so that we have more to look back on in the days to come.
