Correct, the statement would have been meaningless from me, I do not think anyone would dispute that, nor can I verify I am in the town faction, merely that indicators are strong that I am. In fact, the biggest scummer tell would have been if I had gone along with it since I was aware of the flaw, which is one of the reasons I do not claim the comment indicated townie-ness on my part, I would have reacted the same whether I was scum or town. A lie detector has a lot of comments from me that could be checked, too many to twist out of all of them, and I am one of if not the most probable night 1 target for a lie detector so the role's improbability isn't a particularly big safeguard for me. Surprisingly non-coincidentally I regularly avoid making outright statements, of course I rarely do that in RL either so its no great chore.



Nobody said it later than anyone else in any fashion that matters, most spoke up almost immediatly, everyone else either did so in keeping with their known posting habits (FT is a nightowl on weekdays, Berg, Stephen, and Yuna are many timezones ahead) or has a very clear case for wanting to wait and see, ranangrande and I both have an excellent case for our behavior being indistinguishable in this case based on alignment. Turn around time overall was incredibly fast.

It, as I said to Yuna, is not that anyone's behavior was scummy, the point is that nobody's was, but the two earliest answers came so fast on Gher's that it seems particularly improbable that they had time to think through the ins and outs. As I already pointed out, neither Scott nor Fox are def town from this, merely that their rapid response seems to have come considerably quicker than I would expect from your average scummer. Once a couple people reply a scummer knows they will probably have to answer, and must give serious consideration, it is my opinion that neither Scott nor Fox are particularly likely to be scum, everyone after that had both time and motivation to find an out.



Proves nothing, and its suspicious to me that you'd say that when I already explicitly showed how those very statements can be made safe when you have reason to think they might be investigated since you can alert the mod to your choice of phrasing, whereas random remarks can't be proofed without sending such a hoard of explanations to the mod you're likely to be modkilled on principle. It is virtually impossible to safeguard against deception in any remark where the person making the remark anticipates a reasonable possibility of it being lie-detected. Considering we've spent the last couple days pointing out how improbable a given person's comments are to be lie-detected with it being a rare role, there being 11 other players, and this being advertised as a basic game, it isn't even necessary to play word jumble with the truth. Protestations of lie-detectable innocence are about as meaningful as disproof of perfidy as demanding to be copped after the cop turns up dead.

I am aligned with the town. I win with the town. I win when the Mafia loses. I lose when the Mafia wins. Lie detect that! NB: "Hey Mod! just so you know, I'm a very law-abiding person, and would view any mob infiltration into my town, or anyone's town, as a bad thing, I know we're not supposed to go off on non-game tangents but I wished to take a moment to express my outrage over organized crime, and as I am mafia in the game, I did want to make it clear this comment was unrelated to gameplay, as the context was ambigous, I apologize for the off-game commentary."

If we have a lie detector, they will hopefully follow my advice, and ignore any comment that clearly was made by someone who expects it might be checked, aim for some random comment, even something like "I think X is innocent" tells us a lot, if the speaker dies scum then that comment is as good as a copping, because they aren't pre-warned and the mod isn't going to ask someone "What did you mean by this comment?" and go right off context. The real trick to being a lie detector is hunting through the hoards of stuff people say in order to find a freebie, something that could verify more than one person at once, like "I think John, Jane, and Tom are townies" coming from a dead DF.
