"Zimmer, we'll need to get a rope across that gorge, then we'll send a man across with a rope tied to him, that way we'll have a second rope and we can haul him out of the drink if the grapple fails."

Titus scratches his beard. "Eighty Meters, er, Fifty Paces, is a bit long for a toss, we'll need to launch it. Either with a ballista or a catapult. We should be able to assemble a simple Onager in an hour or two, it hardly needs to be accurate or long range, and if we don't have a grapling hook a big rock or sturdy timber that can catch on something will do." Titus points out half a dozen men from the core crew to help him with construction. "In the meantime everyone can start setting up camp and we'll begin cutting one pace long planks for walking on, we'll need a few hundred, each with holes drilled in the ends."

"Once we get those ropes over, we'll just start assembling a rope bridge with planks on the bottom, we should be able to get that up in a few days. That should let us cross a few men at a time, but no wagons, should be able to cross a couple hundred infantrymen per hour though. That will be our first step. "
