The play, Oedipus Rex, is from the classical era. However, the events in the play take place much earlier, so the character Oedipus could indeed be be described as archaic or even helladic.

I don't find the date discrepancy suspicious, as I said, it was an easy mistake to make. However, it does seem to be that Oedipus might be a good scum candidate for this game. He certainly rebelled against fate; it wouldn't be much of a stretch to see him rebelling against gods.
