I liked the film, mainly because I liked the character of Daniel. The new Daniel does not work for me. And Richard Dean Anderson is till MacGyver in my brain. The show seems like a mix between Xena and Star Trek Voyager. I am not enthralled. I'll give it a couple of more episodes, but I really don't see why everyone is so enthusiastic about this.

You need to watch a couple others to fully understand it though. These are:
01) "Children of the Gods" (You've seen it already of course), and
09) "Thor's Hammer".
17) "Solitudes" is a good one in my opinion.
All that being said I came into the show during season 6. I had caught part of one episode a few years before that, but I didn't have Cinimax (I think that was what channel it was on) then and had to wait til Sci-Fi picked it up. Give it a bit of a chance. After all Star Treks TNG, DS9, and Voyager all had (in my opinion) pretty bad stories for most of the first season.
