It's not tremendously deep television, but it's very fun sci-fi.
I recommend you keep going with Season 1. After the first few alien-of-the-week episodes, things start to get better. The Nox, The Torment of Tantalus, Singularity, Enigma, and There But for the Grace of God are all great episodes that introduce elements which are picked up again in later seasons.
