I've always had a problem with the Pandora's box myth. It never made sense to me that it would be a good thing that hope was trapped inside it.


I always though it was away of saying that despite everything, hope always remains... though according to wikipedia hope was seen as a great evil by the Greeks - stopping people accepting their fate and so dragging out their suffering.

Though going on the current idea of hope it doe suit the Doctor well - people always trust and rely on his ability to solve any problem... and he has encouraged Amy to. So he is a sort of hope.


Ahh. With the Greek interpretation it makes sense. I could never figure out what Hope was doing in the box in the first place, nor how it staying there would be good.

Actually, no. It doesn't make sense in the Greek way either. Because if hope is still in the box, that would mean it wasn't here, and that is patently untrue. Silly story.
