As you said, you record something and show it to four friends. Even with hundreds of thousands of people doing that as well, they don't lose a lot of money, relatively speaking. With the internet and the volume inherent in how many things can be obtained without paying for them--that's when serious money can be lost.

But if you're going to download these thing illegally why not just steal the DVD from the store? Is it because it feels different--more like a crime you'll feel bad about, and because you're more likely to get caught? Essentially what you're doing is no different than stealing it directly from the store. If you wouldn't do that, then you shouldn't download them without paying either. Even if you don't care if you're stealing, at least be consistent. Would you do one, but not the other?
