River's timeline goes backward. If she's pregnant now, that would mean she gave birth between this season and the last, no?


But I think you misunderstand the fact that her timeline goes backwards. It only does relative to the Doctor; in between meetings so to speak; when they meet, their times obviously go in the same direction, otherwise things would get really weird. So, even if the child were born between seasons, it would still be in River's future (and she didn't say anything last season, because of SPOILERS) - and the child's timeline would coincide with the doctor's, which makes it essentially motherless.

Or River could have used Amy as a surrogate mother?

I doubt it is this particular combination of genes in the child anyway, but as far as logical consistency goes, I see no real problems with this.
