The problem I have with it is the heavy handedness of some scenes

The bit with Littlefinger was a great example - the only thing he failed to do was an evil "Mhuahahahaha" style laugh and live in a volcano lair to make it really clear he was a bad guy who can't be trusted before he betrayed Ned Stark.
