I just find it very unrealistic. Sure, you can miss a lot from not having a TV or going to the cinema or listening to the radio. But you'd also have to avoid reading newspapers, using the internet, walking down the street, going into subway stations, etc, to have no knowledge of blockbuster things.

They don't need to know everything about said stuff; just not be completely oblivious to it.
