The Jedi are a bunch of dumbasses. They have a prophecy that says he will bring balance to the Force, but they have held the Sith down in population for centuries. Where will the scale drop when the balance come? It was obvious from the beginning that it was a bad idea (even if you don't know how the rest of the movies unfold). Shoving prophecy where it doesn't belong is just a damn stupid idea.
