Up until the last few minutes it was an okay movie, even mildly interesting at times. But the closing scenes were so pessimistic and cynical as to change my feelings for the film to those of disgust and contempt.
Did you see the same film? Have the movie end with him stuck in the sea forever, that would have been cynical and pessimistic. The aliens giving him the illusion of a real and happy life was rather sweet, I found.
...the extinction of humanity to be even the slightest bit pessimistic and cynical? Really? Really?
That was like hundreds or thousands of years into the future! It's not that unlikely
