Sure people might have found it less entertaining if even some of it would have been put in it, but with all the hype, there was no way it wouldn't have made money. Of course not as much, but enough. I suppose Cameron felt he had to make sure Avatar made a lot of money as so much new technology was invested in it.

There seems to be talk of a sequel/s. I hope some of the backstory gets into them, now that he wouldn't have to worry that much about Avatar 2 being a success.
