Did anyone watch the first episode last night? It was really good; although from the same production team as Band of Brothers, I expected it to be. Technically (camera work, special/sound effects) it was fantastic. Scenery wise, a setting in the South Pacific couldn't have been any more beautiful. Put in comparison with the images from war...it was particularly moving. When it comes to the music, it certainly fits the bill. I expect nothing less from Hans Zimmer.
The only thing that I had a tough time grabbing onto was a/the main character(s). In Band of Brothers, the viewer was able to grab onto and follow Winters through the war. It was a bit more difficult this time, although that could be my fault. I had over friends to watch it, and they were talking the whole time. So maybe going back to watch it would help.
Thoughts? Do you think it will be as good as BoB? Do you think that it will give a good, dramatic representation of the war? Or is it just so much good TV?
*minor spoiler...very minor*
I thought the scene where the Japanese soldier was standing in the water and was being shot at was particularly...emotional. We could talk about this if someone saw it, and is in the mood for a good discussion.
