Ridley Scott claims he was in fact a replicant - said so in an interview - whereas Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer disagree, and Ford claims he had agreed with Scott that his character was human.

Philip K. Dick can't be asked, as he died before even seeing the whole movie apparently, but iirc, the character in the book is indeed a replicant... been ages since I read it, though.

In the book he thinks he might be for a while, but it's settled very decisively that he isn't a replicant.
