I actually had the same thought back in the day, but since then Rand has thought back on the death, and it's pretty clear he wasn't involved. I see what you are saying about LTT as well, but at that time in the series would it have been "Obvious"? I look forward to one day being able to drink a Jack&Coke and leaning over to my friends and saying "So, BS spelled it out for us, the killer is......"
The thing is, all the thoughts AFTER the death scene aren't really relevent to the "Intuitively Obvious" RJ alluded to. Yeah Rand thought about it alort, but he is nuts so...
