Re: Okay different angle, Gher Send a noteboard - 03/07/2010 08:29:09 PM
My last post was not quite what I meant. I think the test does all it can to convince them that it is real, and usually succeeds, but they know it isn't reality, if that makes any sense. It really sounds like a lucid dream of sorts.

why are the girls all crying and sobbing when they have to wake up?

Because it's a virtual reality that uses some form of psychoanalysis to determine what each girls greatest fears and desires are, and then uses those to try and keep them from leaving. If it can use a girls fears to get them to run away from the silvery arch, it will. If it can use their desires to make them want to stay, it will.

I think if I had to go through the thing, I'd come out with some pretty strong emotions, and joy would probably not be one of them.

I don't know what it was used for in the AoL. Perhaps it was used as a diagnostic tool in a mental health clinic. Perhaps it was an entertainment center, where customers without the dreamwalking ability could have some fun in a version of TAR.

I guess the Tower thinks that getting girls to go through it and come back out proves that the girl can overcome their fears, or has enough self-control to put aside their desires and overcome temptation.

And I wonder what exactly all the Aes Sedai that run the test are doing. Are they simply generators, who power the thing? Or do the weaves that they put in the thing make a difference?
