You & Ryan make good points, esp on balefire/compulsion. In a shorter series, it'd make more sense newyorkersedai Send a noteboard - 20/08/2010 08:52:59 PM
The latter was a bigtime tool of the Shadow, something that must have had very few Lightside uses. The former was so horribly destructive that even the Shadow didn't want to use it.

Yeah, terangreal construction must have been quite complicated.

It's another thing that might have worked better if the series was shorter. There had to be reasons for the Lightside guys to have to walk and ride to places, and restrictions that would make their enemies a little harder to kill. This also adds more weight to scenes where our heroes learn (or re-discover) weaves that make their lives and missions easier. Since the series didn't wrap in 3 or 4 or 6 books, we've had all this extra time to wonder at the total loss of things like Flight - that weave, in particular, would've been quite handy during/after the breaking (unlike, perhaps, Traveling).
