Huh? Lord Haart Send a noteboard - 02/09/2010 06:18:08 AM
It could well be heading for something like this, as there's nothing much Arthurian in what we can puzzle out for the LB -sealing of the Bore, the Horn sounded etc.

Um... the Horn calls Artur Paendrag. Who is basically a direct plagiarization of Arthur Pendragon (or Uthur). ;)

And the sword in the stone (Callandor/Excalibur) will definitely have a major role to play.

Oh, and guess who killed Arther PenDRAGON? Mordred. Or was that Mordeth? Or Ordeith? Foreshadowing much?

-------------------------------------------
Some more stuff (admittedly from Wikipedia). This is just a small proportion of the references to Arthurian legend but it gives you an idea of just how analogous WoT is to King Arthur.

Morgause - Arthur's half sister, and the mother of Mordred (maybe this actually points to Gawyn (Gawain, half-brother of Mordred) being the one to fulfill Mordred's role and kill Rand?

Gawain also had a half-brother Gareth (Bryne?)

Igraine - The mother of Arthur. Clearly another name-steal by Tigraine. One of her daughters was Elaine.

Guinevere - Egwene Al'Vere (as others have pointed out).

Sir Lancelot du Lac - not unlike Lord Luc, ie Slayer.

Galahad = Galad.

Arthur, like the Dragon, is often said to be one with the land.

Avalon = Tar Valon.

I think it's fair to say that Merlin is Moiraine.

Niviane (Nynaeve) is a huntress who caught Merlin's (Moiraine's) eye. She is a student of Merlin's (Moiraine's) but is turned against him (her) by Merlin's (Moiraine's) desire for her (to become one of the AS). Niviane ends up cursing Merlin so that he sleeps for centuries, not so unlike Moiraine's stay in Finnland.

Finally, the 3 women on the Boat with Rand is a scene from the film Excalibur, which presumably is based on a version of the myth.
